Minimize costly downtime

All-clear notifications confirm when conditions are safe to resume, cutting unnecessary downtime.

Coverage for any location

Cloud-based monitoring with global coverage and no on-site hardware or installation required.

Configurable alert levels

Set information, warning, and alarm thresholds per site and assign recipients.

No capital expenditure needed

No sensors, stations, or infrastructure to purchase, install, or maintain at your sites.

Severe weather intelligence for critical operations

Xweather Protect serves operations and safety teams across industries where weather disruptions create safety risk, downtime costs, or asset damage.

Aviation

Aviation ground operations

Xweather Protect delivers real-time lightning alerts and all-clear notifications that help ramp controllers, ground crews, and operations managers minimize the time between a weather hold and safe resumption.

Alerts arrive within seconds of detection, and configurable thresholds reduce unnecessary holds from distant storm activity.

7 lightning safety strategies to minimize downtime

Solar

Solar asset protection

Xweather Protect provides up to 60 minutes of hail forecast lead time, giving operations teams a window to stow tracker-mounted panels before impact.

For large-scale solar farms, even a few minutes of additional warning can mean the difference between full stow completion and significant panel damage.

Grid resilience

Transmission and distribution

The primary grid use case is post-storm fault correlation: matching transmission line faults with lightning strike data to identify where damage is most likely and prioritize patrols.

Xweather Protect's incident reports map strikes along transmission corridors with enough precision to guide inspection crews directly to the highest-risk spans, accelerating outage restoration.

Wind

Wind energy operations

Post-storm lightning incident reports provide strike locations with error ellipses, damage potential ratings, and polarity data, enabling maintenance teams to prioritize inspections on the turbines most likely affected rather than surveying an entire fleet.

How it works

01
Define

Add your assets and define alert zones using point, multipoint, polygon, or polyline geometries. Cover a single facility or an entire operational network.

02
Set

Configure alert thresholds at multiple levels: Information, Warning, and Alarm. Set independent clear times for each level.

03
Notify

Assign contact lists for each alert. Route alerts through email and SMS or trigger sirens, flashing lights, and display screens directly.

04
Monitor

Track active alerts and monitor approaching storms in the Xweather Protect dashboard. Send automated all-clear notifications when the danger has passed.

Alerts and reports

Xweather Protect supports multiple alert types and a complete post-storm analysis toolkit. Each capability is configurable per site.

Real-time lightning alerts

Alerts activate within seconds when the network detects lightning near your asset. Configure Information, Warning, and Alarm levels with specific alert distances, clear times, and contact lists for each.

Forecast alerts

Receive site-specific wind and gust alerts up to 72 hours in advance. Xweather forecasts lightning and hail risk up to 60 minutes ahead, giving operations teams the lead time to enact safety protocols.

Reporting

After the storm passes, create lightning incident reports to prioritize inspections and maintenance. Export a 30-day alert history to validate operational decisions against safety protocols.

Lightning data from 2016 to present

  • Access historical lightning data from 2016 to present for your assets and areas of interest.

  • Report on lightning events within 1 to 100 km of any asset.

  • Filter by cloud-to-ground events, positive CG, or specific kA ranges.

  • Reports cover up to 31 days with millisecond precision, in CSV, JSON, and GeoJSON formats.

Frequently asked questions

The Xweather Lightning Network detects a lightning event and triggers alerts within seconds. Notifications reach configured channels in real time: email and SMS arrive within seconds, and connected on-site hardware (sirens, lights, screens) activates through the Xweather Protect API. Users can choose whether to alert on cloud-to-ground events only or on all lightning types (the default recommendation is all types). There is no batching or delay in the detection-to-alert pipeline.
